Congressman Mark Messmer, who represents Indiana's 8th Congressional District, posted a series of updates on his social media accounts on November 10 and 11, 2025. His messages addressed the end of the federal government shutdown, local engagement with Daviess County Airport, and recognition of Veterans Day.
On November 10, Messmer commented on the resolution of the federal government shutdown by thanking members of the Senate who contributed to its conclusion. He wrote, "The #SchumerShutdown is FINALLY ending! Thank you to the 8 Democrat Senators who put the needs of our country over the political antics of the radical left. It’s time to reopen the govt, pay the Troops, fund SNAP, and end the 40+ days of unnecessary pain for Americans!" (posted November 10, 2025).
Later that day, Messmer highlighted a visit to a local airport. In his words: "I enjoyed my visit to the Daviess County Airport to learn about their needs and to celebrate the great job they do serving Hoosiers! " (posted November 10, 2025).
On Veterans Day, Messmer paid tribute to service members from his district and across the nation. He stated: "On Veterans Day, #IN08 honors the sacrifices of the men and women who have put on the uniform of our great nation and answered the call of duty. Thank you for your service!" (posted November 11, 2025).
Messmer's posts come at a time when Congress was facing pressure to resolve a protracted federal government shutdown. The situation led to delays in funding for various federal programs such as military pay and SNAP benefits.
