Patton Picks Up Four RBIs in Wabash's Loss At Hanover
Liam Patton racked up four RBIs, but the Wabash College Little Giants fell to the Hanover College Panthers 9-6 on Saturday.
Patton went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks in addition to his four RBIs for the Little Giants (10-5). Michael Galanos put together a noteworthy day at the dish, going 2-for-2 with a double and three walks. Camden Scheidt also contributed for Wabash, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.
Jacob Bishop (2-2) got the ball to start for Wabash and took the loss. Bishop pitched 1-1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits and one walk. He struck out three batters. Henry Birk was a bright spot for the Little Giants, coming out of the bullpen and throwing five innings, giving up two runs, all earned, on two hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Little Giants got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Wabash plated two runs off Hanover's (5-6) pitching, one of which came home on a run-scoring double off the bat of Patton.
The Panthers tied the ballgame at two before the Little Giants returned to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. Galanos scored the lone run of the inning for Wabash to put the Little Giants up 3-2.
Wabash's lead had evaporated in the bottom of the second after Hanover plated a pair of runs to claim a 4-3 lead. The Panthers added three more runs in the third inning off reliever Derek Haslett, who pitched 1-2/3 innings of three-hit baseball with three walks and three strikeouts. The Panthers added another run in the fifth to move in front 8-3.
The Little Giants cut that deficit to 8-6. Patton's bases-clearing double drove in all three runs for the Little Giants. Hanover answered by adding one run in the bottom of the eight for the 9-6 final.
