David Lawson is running for the Republican nomination to serve on the Shelby County Board of Commissioners representing Center District for a four-year term. The primary will be held on May 7.

In a February 24 Facebook post announcing his candidacy, Lawson said "I feel I am at a point in my life where I can propel the county forward while maintaining its identity. This is a position that requires knowledge and familiarity of the county. I have acquired this experience by engaging people and commerce for decades, not months or a few years. Please help support my mission to make Shelby County a promising place to live—for my family and yours."

According to the Shelby County Post, Lawson is a lifelong Shelby County resident who graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1985 before attending Purdue. In 1986, he started a farming operation, and he is currently a full-time farmer.

As the Shelby County Post reported, Lawson previously served on the 4-H Advisory Council and was a partner in Lemon Lane Boutique in downtown Shelbyville. Currently, he is a Shelby County Fair stockholder and serves on the Shelby County Plan Commission.

Lawson and his wife Anne have been married for 30 years. They have four children. Lawson and his family were honored as Farm Family of the Year by the Shelby County Farm Bureau Young Farmers.

According to their website, the Shelby County Board of Commissioners serves as both the executive and legislative bodies of the county government. The commission has responsibilities spanning a number of broad areas, including supervising road and bridge construction and maintenance, developing programs to cultivate economic progress, auditing and authorizing disbursements for the county, and appointing members to serve on various boards, commissions, and committees. The commission is made up of three members, each representing one district.
