Mullin, Thompson Named To Academic All-America First Team

Wabash College senior center Joe Mullin and junior quarterback Liam Thompson earned First Team Academic All-America honors presented by the College Sports Communicators organization. The 2022 Academic All-America teams were announced Tuesday.
 
Mullin, an English major with a 3.95 cumulative grade point average, earned Academic All-America honors for the first team in his career. Mullin was named to the 2022 All-NCAC Second Team after securing First Team honors in 2021. The Little Giants' starting center helped Wabash produce the top passing offense in Division III through the regular season with an average of 363. 5 yards per game. The Little Giants ranked third in the nation in total offense by producing 535.5 yards a contest. Wabash finished the regular season as the number-one scoring offense in the conference and 14th-best in the nation by scoring 42.5 points per game. The Little Giants limited opponents to an average of 1.5 sacks per game, the second-best average in the conference.

Thompson earned Academic All-America honors for the first time in his career. A rhetoric major with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average, Thompson is a two-time First Team All-NCAC and NCAC Offensive Player of the Year selection in 2021 and 2022. He led Division III in passing yards with 3,588 and total offense with an average of 33.7 yards per game through the regular season. Thompson ranked sixth in Division III with 34 passing touchdowns, fifth in completion percentage (251-of-349 for 71.92 percent), and sixth in passing efficiency with a rating of 186.4. He broke Wabash and conference single-season records for passing yards, passing efficiency, and completion percentage. Thompson's 34 TD throws tied for second in Wabash single-season history. He ran for 349 yards and seven more scores to finish with 248 points and was responsible for an average of 24.8 points per game, second-most among Division III players through the regular season. Thompson broke the Wabash single-game record for touchdown passes with seven in a win over Hiram and the Wabash single-game mark for consecutive completions with 19 at Oberlin. He threw for a career-best 450 yards against Kenyon, the last of seven straight games with at least 300 passing yards.
