Little Giants Survive With Two-Point Win At Anderson

Wabash missed a pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining in regulation but forced Anderson into a contested shot at the buzzer to hold on to an 87-85 road win Tuesday evening.

The Little Giants (5-1) erased an eight-point Anderson (2-4) lead in the second half to earn the victory.
Wabash shot 52.4 percent from three-point range, connecting on 11-of-21 triples

The Little Giants had four players score in double figures, led by Vinny Buccilla, who had 25 points. Champ McCorkle tacked on 16 points, and Avery Beaver chipped in 12 points off the bench. Sam Comer also scored 12 points for Wabash.

Wabash shared the ball well in Tuesday's game, racking up 21 assists on 28 made field goals. Sam Comer's seven assists led the Little Giants, and Styles McCorkle also helped out with four assists of his own.

How It Happened

After falling behind 23-21, Wabash went on a 5-0 run with 9:59 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Styles McCorkle, to take a 26-23 lead. The Little Giants went cold over the final 2:27 of the opening period, missing their final three field goal attempts. Anderson (2-4) took advantage of the cold streak to take a 45-39 halftime lead.

After intermission, Wabash took advantage of a series of fouls by the Ravens to go on an 8-0 run, eventually taking a 59-51 lead with 14:37 to go in the contest. Buccilla scored five points in the first four minutes of the second half as part of his 25-point effort.

Anderson got to within three points at 79-76 with 2:55 remaining in the game before a Camden Smith jumper cut the lead to one point. Ahmoni Jones nailed a pair of free throws to push the Wabash lead back to three at 81-78. The Ravens responded with a three-pointer from Tate Ivanyo with 1:28 left to play to even the score at 81-81.

Edreece Redmond drove the lane on the next Wabash possession to give the Little Giants an 83-81 lead with a layup. Comer added two free throws with 27 seconds left to push the Wabash lead to five points. Smith answered at the Anderson end of the floor with two free throws to cut the advantage to two points with 21 seconds on the clock.
 
Wabash drew a foul on the inbound play, but Buccilla missed both double-bonus free throws, but an offensive foul by Anderson gave the ball back to the Little Giants with 14 seconds remaining. The Ravens fouled Beaver to stop the clock, and the junior connected on both free throws to provide a four-point buffer. Smith scored again for Anderson to make it a two-point game with nine seconds remaining. The Ravens fouled immediately, but Comer missed both free throw attempts. Anderson grabbed the rebound and raced down the floor, but Bryson Huckeby's buzzer-beater rolled off the right side of the rim to give Wabash the win.
