Wabash Pitches Second Shutout With 2-0 Win Over Wooster

Wabash recorded its second consecutive shutout with another penalty-kick save from Soren Russell in a 2-0 win by the Little Giants over Wooster in a North Coast Athletic Confrence soccer match at Fischer Field Saturday afternoon.

The victory improved Wabash's record to 11-4-1 overall and 4-2-0 in NCAC play.

How it Happened

Wabash took a 1-0 lead when Jackson Grabill notched his third goal of the season in the 15th minute, assisted by Hugo Garcia.

The Little Giants took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Emilio Paez -- his second goal of the season -- four minutes into the second half. Wabash had one more opportunity to add to the lead with a penalty kick in the 69th minute, but the shot was saved by Wooster (5-6-4, 2-2-2 NCAC). Russell also recorded a save on a penalty kick by the Fighting Scots in 76th minute to keep his goalkeeping sheet clean with his only save of the match. The penalty-kick save was the second in as many games for Russell. He stopped a penalty kick by DePauw on Wednesday in the Little Giants' 1-0 victory.

Game Notes

Wabash took 15 total shots in tha match compared to seven by Wooster. The Little Giants finished with six shots on goal compared to one shot on goal by Wooster.

Soren Russell collected one save for the Little Giants out of seven total Fighting Scots shots and recorded his fifth shutout of the season and second in as many games.

Jackson Grabill and Emilio Paez each took three total shots and had two shots on goal to lead the Little Giant offense.

Wabash moved into third place in the NCAC standings, picking up three points for a total of 12 for the season. Kenyon in first place with Ohio Wesleyan  in second place. Denison is two points behind Wabash in fourth place with 10 points. Wittenberg, the Little Giants' opponent on Tuesday afternoon, is in fifth place with nine points.
